  • 2020 Taiwan International Student Design Competition (TISDC) Call for Entries

Online registration to submit entries for the 2020 Taiwan International Student Design Competition (TISDC) is now open.

TISDC, now in its thirteenth year, is the largest student design competition in the world and the number of international entries has continued to grow. It works hand in hand with 21 international design associations, and the competition attracts notable entries from worldwide design colleges and institutions. Last year, there were 21,988 entries by students from 810 related departments in educational institutions in 66 countries or regions around the world, and 74 were selected to win awards.

Students currently enrolled in a senior secondary school or higher-level institution in Taiwan or abroad, aged up to 30 are welcome to take part in this year’s competition. There’s no entry fee. The deadline is 20 July 2020, 23:59 Taipei time (GMT +8:00).

The theme of this year’s competition is Action. It relates to the thought and quick action we need to take to solve global sustainability problems and achieve the United Nation’s 2030 Sustainable Development Goals. Designers can play an important role and design students are encouraged to be responsible world citizens and help find solutions to our global sustainability problems.

More than thirty design professionals from around the world have been invited to act as impartial judges and select the works that best interpret Action. These and some of the other outstanding design entries will subsequently be exhibited and presented to the world.

More than 60 awards will be presented for entries in three categories: Product Design, Visual Design, and Digital Animation, and the total prize money has increased to NT$4.5 million dollars (approx. US$150,000). The individual place and honorable mention winners in each category will each receive some, and the Grand Prix winner will once again take home prize money of NT$400,000 (approx. US$13,000). There will also be 21 International Design Associations Special Prizes, provided by iSee Taiwan Foundation, and Sayling Wen Cultural & Educational Foundation.

In keeping with this year’s theme, there’s also a new Brand Specific Award: the Environmental Sustainability Award, sponsored by TPCA Environment Foundation. Its broad aim is to stimulate students to create more ways to fully integrate caring for the environment into the economic and other activity cycles, and provide innovative approaches to environmental sustainability. The goal of the TPCA Environment Foundation is to boost industry-academia collaboration in Taiwan, create inspirational and high potential design, and demonstrate how much Taiwan’s design culture has to offer.
