The Graduate Institute of Environmental Engineering (GIEE) at National Taiwan University focuses on addressing a wide range of environmental challenges through interdisciplinary approaches. Established in 1977, GIEE has evolved to offer both M.S. and Ph.D. programs in Environmental Science and Engineering, as well as Environmental Planning and Management. These programs are designed to equip students with deep scientific and engineering knowledge, complemented by economic and social perspectives necessary for effective environmental governance and management.

GIEE's research spans from local issues such as air, water, and soil contamination to global concerns like climate change. By integrating science, engineering, economics, and social sciences, the institute aims to foster holistic solutions to environmental problems. Graduates are prepared not only with technical skills but also with analytical abilities to navigate complex environmental issues in diverse contexts. Through collaboration with governments and industries, GIEE's research contributes to enhancing sustainability efforts at both local and global scales, emphasizing the interconnectedness of environmental quality, economic vitality, and social stability.
