Based on the original thought of developing high and new technologies in solving the existing problems and promoting the growth of the fishery industry, supporting funds were sought from the Council of Agriculture for the construction of the Fisheries Science Research Building in 1979.
  
To integrate into Fisheries-related teaching and research units on the campus NTU, and to strengthen and expand the fields of Fisheries science research, we established the Institute of Fisheries Science to start recruiting students pursuing Master's degrees of science in aquaculture and fishery resources in 1986 and started to form 1997 we began offering Ph.D. program The Institute of Fisheries Science has today 4 full-time faculty professors, 3 adjunct professors, 3 full-time faculty professors and 1 part-time associate professors.

Up to now, more than 200 students have finished their studies in our institute and devoted themselves to industry, government, and academia. Among them fourteen are Ph.D. They have been trained with advanced knowledge and high technology as needed in the modern era of the knowledge economy and make their contribution to the development and management of the fishery.
