Multiple research themes and clusters form the research interests and education focuses of the Department. (1.) Physical geography: Environmental Processes Research Cluster; Environmental Management and Monitoring Research Cluster; (2.) Human geography: Crossover investment and governance, transnational flows and immigration, cultural politics and identities, urban/regional development and governance; (3.) Geographical information sciences: GIS Research Cluster, Remote Sensing Research Cluster, Cartography Research Cluster.
