The Department of Materials Science and Engineering at National Taiwan University has a storied history dating back to its origins with Professors Lu Chih-houng and P.S. Lu in the Department of Mechanical Engineering. Established formally as the Graduate Institute of Materials Science and Engineering in 1982, it offers comprehensive education through master's and doctoral programs, with an undergraduate program introduced in 2001 under the Department of Materials Science and Engineering. This department emphasizes interdisciplinary education across metals, ceramics, polymers, electronics, and biomedical engineering, preparing students with both theoretical knowledge and practical skills.
