The Department of Plant Pathology and Microbiology at National Taiwan University has a primary mission to educate students about various plant pathogens including fungi, bacteria, nematodes, viruses, and non-infectious diseases. Students are trained in disease diagnosis techniques, prevention methods, and understanding the interactions between plants and pathogens. The curriculum integrates traditional and molecular biology approaches, emphasizing contemporary academic research aligned with agricultural knowledge and economic strategies. The department aims to cultivate expertise in microbiology and plant pathology, promoting the exploration of microbial resources and their practical applications. Graduates are expected to contribute their knowledge to societal service, pursuing careers in diverse fields such as agricultural research institutes, plant protection agencies, biotechnology firms, and biomedical research institutions.

The educational program includes foundational and core courses that expand from basic biological concepts to molecular biology. Rigorous microbiology laboratory courses and biotechnological internships enhance students' research skills and operational competence. Advanced courses are designed to apply theoretical knowledge from core subjects to develop expertise in plant pathology and microbiology. Students also have the flexibility to choose elective courses and minors from other departments, fostering a diverse knowledge base. Alumni pursue further education and careers in various fields including plant pathology, microbiology, biotechnology, molecular biology, biochemistry, food technology, biomedical sciences, and immunology, contributing significantly to agricultural science and biomedical sectors domestically and internationally.
