In the 1990s, as interest in Taiwan studies grew, scholars at National Taiwan University recognized the need for an official institution. With support from Professor Chang Heng and organization by Professor Ko Ching-Ming, the Taiwan Literature Research Institute was established in 2004. It builds on archives from the former Taihoku Imperial University and integrates resources from diverse disciplines like foreign languages, Chinese literature, history, sociology, and anthropology. The Institute views Taiwan literature as integral to global issues, fostering interdisciplinary research in fields such as Chinese philology, comparative literature, and cultural studies. Through academic exchanges, it aims to deepen and broaden Taiwan literature studies both locally and internationally.
