The Department of Public Health (DPH) at National Taiwan University was established in 1972, pioneering public health education in Taiwan. Originally part of the Graduate Institute of Public Health founded in 1951, it became the nation's first College of Public Health (CPH) in 1993. Initially structured with separate departments and institutes, a 2005 policy integrated faculty into unified teaching roles, enhancing collaboration and administrative efficiency within the DPH. The college now operates under three divisions: Epidemiology, Biostatistics, and Preventive Medicine; Health Policy and Medical Organization Management; and Environmental and Occupational Health. This restructuring aimed to optimize faculty contributions and educational effectiveness.

Since its inception, the DPH has produced numerous public health experts who contribute significantly across various sectors including health administration, environmental health, and public health education. Alumni hold key roles in research institutes, non-profits, and commercial R&D departments, embodying a commitment to advancing public health through research and education. The DPH continues to evolve, focusing on enhancing its educational offerings and research impact to meet the challenges of global public health.
