The Department of Civil Engineering at National Taiwan University has been integral to the development of engineering education and practices in Taiwan. Originating from the Imperial College of Taipei, it has evolved into a leading institution at NTU. Over the years, the department has played a crucial role in shaping Taiwan's infrastructure landscape, contributing to major construction projects that define the nation's progress. Structural Engineering is one of the most important areas in Civil Engineering. The Structural division has 15 faculty members, with expertise in all areas related to structural and material engineering. The main research activities of this division include the analysis and design of buildings, bridges, dams, and towers. Currently, the Department of Civil Engineering is considered as the best in Taiwan and as one of the leading institutions in the world in both applied and academic research in the Structural Engineering area.
